The Psalms are overflowing with words of confession, anxiety, hope, and encouragement. When you accept no words to limited how y'all are feeling, there is a Psalm to turn to. Throughout my Christian walk, I have often read Psalm 27. It has given me encouragement, but as I read this Psalm with fresh optics, I realize it is deeper than you might call back.

Psalm 27 teaches us about courageous trust in the Lord. This passage clearly shows us where our confidence should lie and where we should seek solace in troublesome times.

What Is Psalm 27 Nigh?

Like many of the Psalms, David pens the words of Psalm 27. Some scholars believe he may have written this one in the days before he became king. In the books of 1and 2 Samuel, nosotros encounter David equally a immature shepherd boy that God calls to be the Male monarch of Israel. What Do We Learn About God's Love and Character?

Psalm 27 is rich with lessons nosotros can learn virtually God'due south character and the love He has for u.s.a..

i. We Can Ever Accept Confidence in the Lord

The first 3 verses stress the conviction that David had in the Lord. He begins in verse i with these words, "The Lord is my light and my salvation–whom shall I fright?" In verse ii, David is about bragging about his enemies existence defeated. David so ends verse 3 with the words "though war pause out against me, even and then will I exist confident."

David's words are powerful. We may not exist fighting battles like David, merely we are fighting battles. Each day we fight temptation, greed, and lust. We fight to continue ourselves prepare apart from this globe. In those battles, we experience our enemies rise against us with hurtful words or deeds. But we tin can brag that even though the enemies come, our Lord will defeat them. We can be confident that our God will never leave us.

Despite the heaviness of David's situation, he was confident that God had the perfect program for him. We tin can be confident too. God has the perfect plan for our lives, and no enemy will stand up in God's way. Hebrews 4:xvi states "Let united states of america and then approach God's throne of grace with conviction, then that nosotros may receive mercy and find grace to help united states in our time of need." In verses four through six, David is seeking the Lord. He is exclaiming his desire to commune with Him in the safe of his "sacred tent." David wants to sing, make music, and shout for joy in the presence of God. Ultimately, David is seeking joy that tin only come from communing with the Lord.

John Piper wrote, "Communion with God is non just learning almost God but enjoying fellowship with God in the truth he reveals most himself." David expresses his desire to non but learn almost God, merely he wants to be with God in His temple and make music with the Lord.

Today, God still wants His children to commune with Him. He wants u.s. to read our Bibles and learn more about who He is. He wants to hear the states praise him in word, vocal, and human action. When God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden of Eden, He walked among them. (Genesis three:8) God wanted to be with His cosmos and that includes yous and I. God gave usa the gift of the Holy Spirit and so that we could commune daily with Him.

iii. God Will Never Forsake U.s.a.

David had spent many years fighting and running. Through information technology all, he never lost faith in God. He was confident that the God he served would never forsake him. Verses nine-10 of this psalm show David crying out for God to non turn His confront from him. The last words David says in verse 10 are "the Lord will receive me."

Our God volition never leave nor forsake u.s.. He has promised to never turn away from u.s.. In Philippians 1:six we are told that the one that began a practiced piece of work in u.s.a. will carry it on to completion. Our land has become divided because of racism, equality problems, and questions regarding the sanctity of human life.

This Psalm is 1 of backbone, trust, and confidence. David'southward words remind the states that even in the difficult times we can persevere because our God has perfect timing and the perfect plan. There is no need to panic and develop our plans to fix the problem. We can be confident that our Lord will never turn his face from us.
